The Uv Properties of the Narrow Line Quasar

چکیده
I Zwicky 1 (I Zw 1) is the prototype narrow line quasar. Its narrow line profiles minimize blending effects and thus allow a significantly more accurate study of individual quasar emission lines. We report here the results of our study of the 1150-3250 Å emission of I Zw 1 using a high S/N (50-120) spectrum obtained with the Faint Object Spectrograph (FOS) of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The UV spectrum of I Zw 1 is very rich in emission lines, with essentially no wavelength range free of emission line features. The following main new results are obtained:

I Zw 1 is the prototype narrow line quasar. This type of AGNs show a number of common peculiar characteristics whose physical origin is not yet well understood. Here, I review the results of a detailed study by Laor et al. (1997b) of the UV emission properties of I Zw 1, based on a high quality HST FOS spectrum. The main results are: 1) The Mg II and the Al III doublets are resolved, indicating...

A lot of absorption lines are in the bluewards of Lyα emission line of quasar which is well-known as Lyαforest. Most of absorption lines in this forest belong to the Lyα absorption of the neutral hydrogen in the inter-galactic medium (IGM). For high redshift quasars and in the continuum with low and medium resolution, there are no many regions without absorption, so that, the quasar continuum i...

It is widely believed that the optical/UV continuum of quasars (the " Big Blue Bump ") represents optically thick thermal emission from accretion onto a black hole. Narrow line radio galaxies don't show such a component directly, and were historically thought for that reason to be rotation-powered, with large kinetic luminosity in the radio jets but very little accretion or optical radiation. W...

متن کاملAn intense soft - excess and evidence for light bending in the luminous narrow - line quasar PHL 1092
The narrow-line quasar PHL 1092 was observed by XMM-Newton at two epochs separated by nearly thirty months. Timing analyses confirm the extreme variability observed during previous X-ray missions. A measurement of the radiative efficiency is in excess of what is expected from a Schwarzschild black hole. In addition to the rapid X-ray variability, the short UV light curves (< 4 hours) obtained w...
